Thermal Magic Cooker

>> Monday, June 28, 2010

Heat retaining, stainless steel vacuum-type cooking pan.
Cooks thoroughly without fire. And most important factor I consider is the fact that it saves electricity.
I had been using a 1.5 litre Endo Magic Cooker for Alaric's daily meal. Preparing soup base night before and put rice to cook in morning. This long boiling makes the soup base extra delicious and tasty. Not forgetting the nutrients are all retained in the soup base as there are no overheating.
For our home sweet home, we invested in a Tiger 4.5 liters thermal. Much more expensive than Endo but reliability and durability is better too.
My aunt is using mostly Tiger products and strongly encourages us to use that too. She helped us to purchase from the distributor and gotten a good price for it!
In future when I go work and Alaric to childcare, I can prepare the soup night before and reheat before I go work. Then everyone can have home cooked meal after the long an tired day at work!

He is my Brother!

>> Thursday, June 24, 2010

My brother is not the best brother in the world.
He has the worst temper. (second to my dad actually)
He doesn't have the looks or figuire.
He is not anywhere near being rich.
He is never understanding.
He is full of himself!
He is not the smartest of all in the family.

BUT
He is the best brother I can ever ask for!!

He has the worst temper. (second to my dad actually)
-And I am the third person whom had the worst temper!

He doesn't have the looks or figuire.
-That always made me feel great when I am beside him! :p

He is not anywhere near being rich.
-Well neither am I so we are at the same level/status to communicate better.

He is never understanding.
-Never understanding he is but always giving in to me even wihout understanding at times!

He is full of himself!
-Try to be at his best always in order to be a role model for me!

He is not the smartest of all in the family.
-At least smarter than me and always there to guide me!

Dearest Brother of mine,
Happy Birthday to You!
I want to tell you that you had been a great brother to me!
I love you!

Why Worry?!

In this life there are only two things to worry about.
Either you will be rich or poor.

If you are rich, there is nothing to worry about.
But if you are poor, there are only two things to worry about.

Either you will be healthy or sick.
If you are healthy, there is nothing to worry about.

But if you are sick, there are two things to worry about.
Either you will live or you will die.

If you live, there is nothing to worry about.
If you die there are only two things to worry about.

You will either go to heaven or to hell.
If you go to heaven, there will be nothing to worry about.

If you go to hell, you'll be so darn busy shaking hands with all your friends, you won't have time to worry!

Why Worry??

Favourite corner

>> Tuesday, June 22, 2010

He no longer plays at his blue mat corner where we place all his toys. It's like a playground for him last time. Whenever he wakie, we will put him there and he will play with his toys for some time. That was when he wasn't walking and running around. (I miss those days!)
Now, he had enough of his playground and toys. He has a new favourite corner, with all his books and other things that doesn't belong to him.

Own story books, Sesame Street books, library books and some of his favourite DVD covers.

All our music and cartoon DVD which he is not supposed to touch.
Now that he master the skills of opening drawers, its now his favourite activity. (even when we removed all the drawers' handles)
Going through and taking out all DVD and music CD. Making a mess out of everything is still his forte.
I think he would have to find his new favourite corner again after we move to our new place.

Final round of selection for Preschool

>> Monday, June 21, 2010

We have shortlisted 3 preschools for Alaric. All 3 are considered new establishment, less than 3 years.
But unfortunately one of the most wanted, top on the list one is out as they had reached their maximum capacity of the school.
Second on list is at Katong. It's a big centre and I especially love their spacious gym area. It combines Montessori and thematic approach. It's a lot of learning through play which I focus a lot. They have KinderMusik and GymPlay on a weekly basis.
It's also the very first preschool we had visited and it did leave a good impression for my Aunty whom accompanied us to to do the visiting. There is expats toddlers there as well so it's a good mixture of culture and gender as well.
Third on the list is between Katong and Old Airport Road. The teacher:student ratio is the lowest at 1:4 which is the most attractive factor of the centre. They have many educational lessons and focus a lot on academic aspects of the child. The principal did mentioned that our child need not attend extra class outside as they provide most classes when our child is there.
Downside is that the playroom is small and waterplay is only held once a month. Playdays(no lesson) are only on Friday. My concern is all work but no play makes jack a dull boy! I do not want to deprive Alaric of his childhood. So gotta review and see the timetable for this preschool again.
We will make arrangement for Hubbs to visit the 2 preschools and decide by then.
Maybe when it's the house moving ceremony day as Hubbs will be on leave and it's a weekday!!
So looking forward.

Wow what an expensive experience. With a snap of fingers or a nod of head, goes a few thousand dollars from our wallet.
We have decided on our tiles for the living room, lighting and electricity points in our house.
For all the purchases today, I think I love the tiles most! It's something different than the usual and matches our resort theme so so well. *wink* Not going to reveal what it's like till our house warming.

Priorities in LIFE!

TRIVIA - mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups of coffee

When things in your lives seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with an unanimous "yes."

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.

The golf balls are the important things--your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favourite passions---and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car.

The sand is everything else---the small stuff. "If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls.

The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

"Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.

Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first---the things that really matter.

Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend."
(took the above from someone whom posted in fb)

Yellow or Bert?

Alaric fancy the color of yellow. He tend to choose toys that are yellow. Choose yellow crayons during doodling time. Choose yellow teether when biting since young. Choose shoes that are yellow.... ....
His current favourite Sesame Steet character is Bert. I wonder is it because Bert is close to yellow color or he really adores Bert as a character itself?

Anyway if you do come across toys of Bert, do inform me as they are really rare. As you know, Bert isn't really a popular character in Sesame Street. It's always either Elmo, Big Bird or Cookie Monster. I don't know why he doesn't fancy Big Bird as he is more yellow than Bert. Haha.

That's Life!

When you are a baby, you are being taken care by parents. Simply eat and sleep.
When you are a toddler, you play and learn as parents guide you along.
When you are teenager, you party and have your fun. Study are your main responsibility and duty as a child.
When you go out society to work, you widen your society experiences and enlarge your circle of friends.
When you are more matured as an adult, you find your better half and set up a family of your own.
When you are so busy with your own family, your parents aged and need your care like how you needed them when you were a baby.
When our parents leave us, we grow old like our parents and our children takes care of us.
The cycle goes on and on and on. And I repeat I said it's a cycle means what comes around goes around.
That's stages of life that all will go through.
Let's all cherish life and family people around us when they're still here!

He is really crossing his boundaries!!
See the blue portion of the bed? He is supposed to zzz there and see the pillow alignment that segments half of the bed - blue and red pillow? He is already having more than half of the bed.

That explains why poor hubbs gotta be zzz in a separate single mattress. He had not been zzz on been for the longest time, since the time Alaric migrated from his Yao Lan/Cot to our bed.
Hope with our new king size bed at our home sweet home will allow 3 of us to zzz in peace.

端午節 Rice Dumpling Festival/Dragon Boat Festival

>> Tuesday, June 15, 2010

Qu Yuan was a Chinese patriotic poet who serve the emperor in Chu Kingdom in ancient China. He was a good minister and was well loved by the people. However, bad evil court officials were jealous of Qu Yuan's abilities and they successfully influenced the weak-minded emperor to dismiss and exile him.

Feeling disheartened and angry, Qu Yuan tied himself to a rock and jumped into the Mi Luo river in Hunan province in order to protest against injustice and corruption. When the people get to know of his death, they rowed their boats to the river to look for his body. When they failed to find his body, they started beating their drums and making loud noises in the river hoping to scare the fishes and sea creatures away so that they will not eat his body. Others started making rice dumplings to throw into the river believing that the sea creatures and fishes will eat their dumplings instead of Qu Yuan's body.

Since then, the 5th day of the 5th month was set as Duan Wu Jie, to remember the incident.

Fun time with Cousin Alyssa

It had been a long time since I met up with my cousin-in-laws and niece-Alyssa. Well, she still look a lot like her mummy. And I must say she had grown up so much. Big girl already.
I think Alaric did enjoy himself today. Aunty Ting played with him a lot too. Think it's good to let the 2 kids play together so at least they have a playmate.
We had a sumptous dinner at their place. All thanks to the best cook in Goh family, Ah Jim- wife of Uncle Chong.
I always feel that I put on at least 1kg after dining at their place.
I am looking forward to drop by to visit next week again if time permits.

Didn't take much photo. So there it is. They are watching Barney. Alyssa is a Barney fan.
